The Eulogy

We have listed a few suggestions for anyone who may be asked to do a eulogy.

Doing a eulogy can be demanding and rewarding. You know your topic, for the most part you know your message, and your audience will be attentive. You can write an outline, write out the whole eulogy in paragraph form or simply organize your ideas and give the eulogy without notes:

Express Regret for the Loss: "We are poorer for the loss of ...."

Celebrate the Life: " Joe loved ....."

Tell a story or two: "I remember the time when Joe........"

Reflect on character qualities that are consistent with the person. "When we think about Joe, we are reminded of ....."his kindness, loyalty, gentleness, courage, generosity, resourcefulness, gratefulness" etc. Give illustrations.

Include special achievements, awards or honors.

Include poetry or the words to a favorite hymn or song.

Feel free to include appropriate humor (jokes, quotes, sayings).

Be yourself as you make the presentation.
